muse2
“Untamed Muse” by Tom Kidd: A great depiction of my vision of a poet.

Sometimes, my words won’t come,
no matter what I try to write.
I softly call upon my muse,
entreat her
to visit me this night.

I feel her warmth within the room,
I’m instantly at ease.
I sense her reading my scribbles,
she knows my thoughts
and hears my longing pleas.

I feel her delicate fingers
upon my clumsy hand;
her words and phrases flood my mind,
things I’ve never seen before
from some far distant land.

I don’t know where she comes from,
(perhaps, from up above)
where ever it is
that she calls home,
she comes to me with love.

There Are No Horses Anymore

It’s like you’ve been reading Dostoevsky
and your mind is heavy,
so you go for a walk.
You haven’t eaten,
but instead of soup,
you order two glasses of beer.
You know how Rodion felt,
because you’re him.
You walk into the street
and a dark horse is being beaten,
but, that can’t be,
because there are no horses anymore —

that was only a dream;
only in the book.
You think you’re going mad,
but, it’s alright,
you don’t have to worry.
Someone has just closed the cover —
you’re tucked away, safe inside.
Everything is alright.

Careful With That Axe, Eugene

Eugene had a mind of his own,
not, as some would say, a sound mind,
but his own mind, nevertheless.

“It’s awfully considerate of you
to think of me here.
And I’m most obliged to you
for making it clear
that I’m not here.”

Eugene was a great musician,
taking music to the limit;
his songs will always survive.
Eugene took drugs to the limit;
he’s now in Interstellar Overdrive.

When we observed him with an axe,
you may understand our concern.
Was he in danger, or were we?

Eugene had already left us in spirit,
but he wandered away that day
and was lost to us forever.

~~~
barrettold
This poem is dedicated to the memory of “Syd Barrett (born Roger Keith Barrett; 6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) who was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist and artist. He is most remembered as a founding member of  band Pink Floyd, providing major musical and stylistic direction in their early work, although he left the group in 1968 amidst speculations of mental illness exacerbated by heavy drug use.”
Axe is also British slang for guitar. Pink Floyd’s use of the title Careful With That Axe, Eugene may refer to “Barrett’s behavior (which) became increasingly unpredictable, partly as a consequence of frequent experimentation with psychedelic drugs such as LSD. Many report having seen him on stage with the group, strumming on one chord through the entire concert, or not playing at all. At a show at The Fillmore West in San Francisco, during a performance of “Interstellar Overdrive”, Barrett slowly detuned his guitar. The audience seemed to enjoy such antics, unaware of the rest of the band’s consternation.” (Source: Wikipedia)
Tennessee Honey
Thoughts drift south,
Jack Daniel’s country
where the weather
suits my mood.
On a barstool
I park my bones
Inhale the Jack, magnolia–
sweet, sweet surrender.
A woman alone
at a corner table–
darkest eyes,
brightest smile,
auburn hair
to her shoulders.
I think, Why not?
Our eyes meet,
I saunter towards her
and know, from the look she gives,
she’s heard it all before.
“Ma’am, It would give me
the greatest pleasure
to buy you a drink
and share your table for a while.
If I can’t keep you smilin’
I promise,
I’ll take my conversation elsewhere.”
She said with the utmost
southern grace, charm
and hospitality,
“You’ve got ten minutes.
I don’t like to be disappointed.”
I fell into her raven pools,
somewhere, I got lost there.
I don’t know my way too well
around these parts
but, I’d swear she lured me
with some kind of mojo.
My eyes refused to look away
from ruby lips (so sensual)
as they spoke words of love
in a voice
of the sweetest, southern honey,
words…dripping…
tantalizing.
The evening passed,
holding hands across the table.
I was enthralled and enchanted.
Where it went from there
I refuse to say
(gentleman’s code of honor).
Such beauty
I have never known.
It keeps coming back
to haunt me.
My thoughts
were only passing through
but, in my dreams I see
the darkest eyes,
brightest smile,
hear her voice–
Tennessee honey.
old-greek-men
old-man-giving-the-middle-finger
Slouching
in forgotten tap-rooms
dirty old men,
forgotten old men,
slop piss-colored beer
from, wet, dripping glasses.
The hollow din,
the retelling of “the good old days”,
echoes sadly
as life quickly passes.
“They used to call me ‘The Silver Fox’
What do you think of that?
They used to care.”
An empty glass crashes
to the muddy floor.
“I guess I’ll be hitting the street tonight.
Sleep in an alley tonight.
Nobody cares.”
Slouching
in forgotten tap-rooms
dirty old men,
forgotten old men,
slop piss-colored beer.
Nobody cares….
First Kiss
kiss
my first kiss
so long ago
(not yet in high school)
in the back seat of a ’51 Ford
at a drive-in theatre.
I’ll remember ’till I die
my nervousness,
perspiration,
her perfume
(Tigress by Faberge)
her warmth,
angora sweater set
(pastel yellow —
no buttons
to hinder progress)
the sweetness of her kiss.
She knew much more than I
about such things
another world
had opened to me
desire and heartache
go together —
there’s seldom one
without the other
but, would we want it
any other way?
would we want
a safe, yet loveless life
without the up
without the down?
or, take the ecstasy
and risk our hearts
being trampled
to the ground
When She Starts in Walking
woman
When she starts in walking, guys they stop their talking.
Their minds are on just what they want to do.
They can dream, scheme and taste it coming true.
She’s got their attention, nothing left to mention.
She knows their minds; she’ll use that on them too.
She’ll lead the way and they will follow through.
She knows what she’s doin’, may lead some to ruin —
casualties, but what’s a girl to do.
Oh, my dear, such a pity, what to do.
Always calculating, lots of time for waiting;
a chump will come along, they always do.
I’m sure one’s coming now, maybe it’s you.
She knows to set her hook; she’ll do it with a look.
She knows he’ll take the bait and then he’s through.
He’s hooked now and squirming in the queue.
She has him on his knees, all he can say is please.
He’ll do her bidding, thinks he’s got her too,
but she’s casting her hook for someone new.
She’s got what she’s after; all that’s left is laughter.
She’s cruel and conniving through and through.
You watch out now, she’s coming straight for you.
Drunk Wine
troubled blues with feeling
may ease my tortured mind;
free me from the clutches
of those I left behind.
these dirty hobo rags
hang on a wasted frame,
haunted by the memory
and rhythm of your name.
walking through this alley
shrouded, dark with death.
evil deeds will haunt me,
until my final breath.
craving me some whisky,
a friendly word and smile.
you can spend my money,
just stay a little while.
booze, it clouds my thinking.
your face is just a blur……
few more drinks together
i may think you are her.
guitar strings, whining steel,
a whisper and a moan.
use me and abuse me;
don’t leave me here alone.
a dove sits on a snowy bough,
her song cuts through my heart.
we both know how the lonely feels
when love is torn apart.
there never was an emptiness
the way I feel inside.
the ache is deep within my chest,
i have no place to hide.
was once a time my heart was full
when spring was in the air,
but Frost has draped me with her cloak,
my tears fall in despair.
the midnight train is leaving soon.
my bags are packed to go.
i shiver on the platform bare,
a spectre, slinking low.
I live in the borderlands,
between reality and imagination,
just this side of fantasy.
Reality is okay.
I visit there
to check my mail,
earn a few dollars,
pay some bills,
buy groceries.
Reality is an okay place to visit
but, I wouldn’t want to live there.
I’m happiest in my mind
where I filter my thoughts
like an answering machine.
I delete the negative,
dwell on the positive.
People may see me walking alone.
They don’t see the beautiful woman,
with her hand in mine, beside me.
I may be seen sitting at a table, alone.
Nobody sees the delicate hand,
with the magic fingers,
sliding up my thigh.
Or, the passionate kiss
being planted on my throat,
the fingers running through my hair.
Where I work
people see me smile.
They think I enjoy my job.
They don’t know me.
The Letter
I wanted to write
you a letter.
I didn’t know
just what to say.
So much has happened
little has happened
it’s happening every day.
You talked to me
of forever
so far away
yet, not so far.
You whispered
we’d be together
united as a single star.
I wandered the woods
lost and alone.
You took my hand
guided and charmed me.
Woodsmoke and cedar
drifted on the breeze.
I wondered if I’d find you
hiding behind our old oak tree.
Electra Glide
tumblr_mkpiti4QxF1rj75xpo1_500
A motorcycle
pulled up beside me
as I walked along
the Pacific Coast Highway.
“Want a lift?”
said a sweet, sexy voice.
“Sure” I said.
I swung my leg over
I don’t mind riding bitch
I slid my fingers
over her perfect hips
and joined them
over her warm, toned abs.
We rode beside the ocean
then stopped to watch the sunset.
Removed our boots
to feel the foaming waves
lapping at our bare feet.
I grasped her hair.
Her red expectant lips
found mine.
The rest of her body
followed.
…
I was standing in line at the liquor store lying to myself, I need this fifth of J.D. for the sore throat that I think may be coming on. In front of me was a woman with long, shapely legs. I paid for my purchase and was heading for the exit. There she was again, red lips, sunglasses and red hair. I recognized her from somewhere, college maybe. I think she was someone’s baby sister.
She said, “Dave, would you like a lift somewhere” My response was “Sure, your name’s Ivy, isn’t it? Which direction are you headed?”
She lowered her sunglasses, winked and replied, “Which direction do you want to go?’ Okay, I thought, this seems interesting. We walked to the parking lot, she headed to a Harley Davidson Electra glide. “You ride this?” I asked.
“Yes, haven’t you ridden a bike before?”
“Well, yes I have, but never as a passenger.
She mounted the driver’s seat, bent to flip down the passenger footboards and said, “Hop on.”
I swung my leg over and thought I don’t mind riding bitch.
“Where do I hang on?” I asked.
“Well, there are passenger handles, or you can hang onto me.” She pulled on her riding gloves and as she reached forward to the hand grips her tee rode up her back exposing delectable flesh and the top of a black thong. I slid my fingers over her perfect hips and joined them on her warm and muscular abs. I thought This is a ride I’m going to enjoy.
She gunned the engine and we were off. We headed to the Pacific Coast Highway along the ocean, stopped to walk along the beach, the foaming waves lapping at our bare feet. We listened to seagulls swooping in, watched the tide and sunset. I took her hand, It seemed natural and warm. The rest is erotic memory.
She’s a Chameleon
She’s a chameleon,
the worst kind of drama queen —
beneath those jeans and high top boots
you’ll find silk lingerie.
She’s a champion
who’ll out cuss, drink and fight
outlaw bikers twice her size and weight
to come back for more.
A mouthwaterin’
straight razor totin’ mama
who won’t hesitate to cut you
if you do her wrong.
If you treat her right,
show her the respect,
she’s earned, battled for and deserves,
she’ll always have your back.
A chick with attitude.
black leather on the outside;
soft, sensuous and so smoldering
when the lights are dimmed.
Pull off those high top boots,
slide down her tight tattered jeans —
a devil in silk, a chameleon,
an angel of seduction.
high in the treetops
our nest near the sky.
we snuggle and watch
the stars shooting by;
stars that we wish on,
stars that we name,
stars with no purpose,
we love just the same.
twigs interwoven
with love and with care,
feathers and ribbons
from a dress that you wear.
pieces of memories,
dreams stuffed between,
baubles and buttons,
things that we’ve seen:
a bracelet, a necklace
an earring or two.
things that we’ve thought of,
things that we’ll do.
a nest comfy, cozy
a fit just for two.
my heart’s yours forever
I love you, I do.
a dove sits on a snowy bough,
her song cuts through my heart.
we both know how the lonely feels
when love is torn apart.
there never was an emptiness
the way I feel inside.
the ache is deep within my chest,
i have no place to hide.
was once a time my heart was full
when spring was in the air,
but Frost has draped me with her cloak,
my tears fall in despair.
the midnight train is leaving soon.
my bags are packed to go.
i shiver on the platform bare,
a spectre, slinking low.
Drunk Wine
troubled blues with feeling
may ease my tortured mind;
free me from the clutches
of those I left behind.
these dirty hobo rags
hang on a wasted frame,
haunted by the memory
and rhythm of your name.
walking through this alley
shrouded, dark with death.
evil deeds will haunt me,
until my final breath.
craving me some whisky,
a friendly word and smile.
you can spend my money,
just stay a little while.
booze, it clouds my thinking.
your face is just a blur……
few more drinks together
i may think you are her.
guitar strings, whining steel,
a whisper and a moan.
use me and abuse me;
don’t leave me here alone.
butterfly
You say
you’re normal.
You put yourself down —
just one of many,
nothing special.
You’re delicate
and appear fragile
but, fly thousands of miles
buffeted by winds,
inclement weather.
Readers marvel
at your countenance.
Wonderful worlds you create,
inspiring all —
a virtuoso with words.
I marvel also
at your compassion,
consideration, intelligence,
strength and wisdom.
I am enthralled.
We walk
through the surf
my hand holding yours.
We see diamonds
brighter than the stars
of the night sky.
We see porpoises
mating.
Can there be
anything more special,
more precious,
than shells in the sunlight?
We’ve found paradise
here on earth
where neither of us
had previously
visited.
I awake
to find myself
crouching on a beach
I have never before seen.
Water laps at my toes.
My fingers pick at empty shells,
all kinds and colors.
Thoughts are empty
as the shells.
The horizon is infinite
with barely distinction
between sky and water.
I feel suspended
between the two —
lost.
Appearing
close beside me
is a moving shadow.
I see the silhouette
of a woman.
Blazing sunrise blinds me
to anything else.
Beside me she squats,
silently picks
at shells.
We do not speak.
She takes my hand
and leads me to
our dream.
dryad6
A young deer
wandered into view.
I drifted off
in gentle slumber.
I felt a pair
of tender hands
coverer my eyes.
I heard a giggle.
I hesitantly
touched her hand.
She revealed herself,
and met my gaze.
This apparition,
with angelic face,
bent and placed
her lips on mine.
I was transformed
and with the dryad
flew to the most
magical place.
honeysuckle
what was once
is no more
even the memories
have faded into oblivion
stars may light the skies
and blooms of honeysuckle
drape the fence
but more than her perfume
was wasted that June
heartbeats were counted
sighs and whispers
hang on the breeze
A motorcycle
pulled up beside me
as I walked along
the Pacific Coast Highway.
“Want a lift?”
said a sweet sexy voice.
“Sure” I said.
I swung my leg over
I don’t mind riding bitch
I slid my fingers
over her perfect hips
and joined them
over her warm, toned abs.
We rode beside the ocean
then stopped to watch the sunset.
Removed our boots
to feel the foaming waves
lapping at our bare feet.
I grasped her hair.
Her red expectant lips
found mine.
The rest of her body
followed.
…
I was standing in line at the liquor store lying to myself, I need this fifth of J.D. for the sore throat that I think may be coming on. In front of me was a woman with long, shapely legs. I paid for my purchase and was heading for the exit. There she was again, red lips, sun glasses and red hair. I recognized her from somewhere, college maybe. I think she was someone’s baby sister.
She said, “Dave, would you like a lift somewhere” My response was “Sure, your name’s Ivy, isn’t it? Which direction are you headed?”
She lowered her sunglasses, winked and replied, “Which direction do you want to go?’ Okay, I thought, this seems interesting. We walked to the parking lot, she headed to a Harley Davidson Electra glide. “You ride this?” I asked.
“Yes, haven’t you ridden a bike before?”
“Well, yes I have, but never as a passenger.
She mounted the driver’s seat, bent to flip down the passenger footboards and said, “Hop on.”
I swung my leg over, and thought I don’t mind riding bitch.
“Where do I hang on?” I asked.
“Well, there are passenger handles, or you can hang onto me.” She pulled on her riding gloves and as she reached forward to the hand grips her tee rode up her back exposing delectable flesh and the top of a black thong. I slid my fingers over her perfect hips and joined them on her warm and muscular abs. I thought This is a ride I’m going to enjoy.
She gunned the engine and we were off. We headed to the Pacific Coast Highway along the ocean, stopped to walk along the beach, the foaming waves lapping at our bare feet. We listened to seagulls swooping in, watched the tide and sunset. I took her hand, It seemed natural and warm. The rest is erotic memory.
I approached silently
from behind her chair.
My fingers gently covered her eyes.
“Guess who!”
I whispered.
“I can’t imagine!”
she coyly answered.
“Your tender fingers
are warm,
soft, unthreatening —
I’d like to get to know them better.”
“They’re all yours,”
I replied,
“here to do your bidding;
to explore your wildest fantasies.
Are you ready?”
I massaged her shoulders
tight with tension.
“Does that feel better?”
I asked.
“Yes,” she sighed
“please continue.”
I worked my way up her neck —
she moaned.
Gently down to her breasts
again she moaned.
“More, don’t stop…”
In her ear I murmured,
“Close your eyes,
I’m taking you
on an amazing
adventure.”
I was walking by the seaside
in the moonlight so entrancing.
Upon the sparkling water
I saw the mermaids dancing.
They bid me frolic with them
as they danced upon the ocean.
Their bodies swayed seductively
in undulating motion.
Their song was so enchanting
syncopated with their laughter.
I wanted to dance with them
for now and ever after.
To leave my cares behind me
in search of Neptune’s daughter —
for with her I’d find freedom
in the seaweeds ‘neath the water.
woman
bring on the heat,
the humidity,
the frustration,
the irritability,
that finds you at 1am
naked, tossing and turning
on sweat soaked
sheets.
I come to you,
hastily strip off my clothes
and savor the sweat
dripping between your breasts.
My hand locked in your tresses,
I kiss, lick and suck
every inch of your
wanton flesh.
cradle my head
with your elegant fingers,
rub my face between your legs.
Use and abuse me as your slave
to pleasure yourself
to climactic
ecstasy.
Autumn-Fairy-Cosplay-05
amongst the cedars
maples and sumac
I wandered the woodland
trails
I soon grew weary
and sat on a log
and slept the sleep of
the dead
I awoke and spied
a flicker of red
unlike what I’d ever
seen
like a butterfly
she fluttered and flew
enticing with beauty
and charm
entranced I followed
this mystic creature
deep in the forest
she led
it seemed like a game
she’d hide and I’d seek
I’d lose then find her
again
lost in the forest
she appeared nearby
watching and tilting
her head
She said, “I imagine
the beautiful wild life,
a watery paradise for runaaways
in search of the beauty of nature
and adventure and the taboo.
“I want to sip the wonder of life
open the portal of paradise
and take one another where
we have not been before.”
