My life would be so much easier
if I knew what others thought,
what they expected,
what they wanted.
I went in blind,
not knowing the emotional situation
(I’m not telepathic).
I said what I felt,
what I believed.
There was another other
shrouded in mystery.
How was I to know?
I wasn’t allowed to ask.
That would have been an invasion of privacy.
Better, I stumble in the dark,
being told I’ve done nothing wrong
as accusations fly.
I’m lost, but not offended.
I lived a dream,
everything was possible,
a spirit, a whisper
of love
extinguished.

When I was reading this I thought of the myth of Parsifal. He is taught by his mother not to ask too many questions. In the end it is what makes him fail on his quest to redeem the Grail on the first attempt. It can be hard to ask sometimes. And sometimes others get upset as they wish we could just “know”. I relate to this a lot.
