Along a woodland path, I strolled
of nature’s beauty I extolled:
The dappled trail, a great horned owl,
infrequently, a gray wolf’s howl.
The gentle, scented lake-side breeze
had me completely at my ease.
The midnight hour had come and gone.
Toward a clearing, I was drawn.
Why I went, I’ll never know.
It was my destiny to go.
The Harvest Moon with mystic light
revealed an otherworldly sight.
A shimmering appeared, it seemed,
or, perhaps, I’d only dreamed.
I knelt in supplication to
a spirit who appeared in view.
In beauty, purity and grace,
with love-light shining from her face,
a halo, waves of raven hair.
I was in awe to see her there.
I kissed her hand and softly prayed.
The orchestra of nature played.
The scent of cedar on her skin
enveloped me with warmth within.
The blessing of her touch sublime,
in harmony our souls entwined.
A world apart, together now —
no question as to where or how.
Conversation through the night.
Her wisdom helped me see the light.
In times of need, like little birds,
they come to me, her precious words.
To me, her message was of love
for man, for nature, God above.
To let me love beyond my fear.
To live in balance through the year.
Awakened at the break of dawn
I found the spirit to be gone.
Perhaps a dream — and then I found
a ring of stones placed on the ground.
I sometimes feel her doeskin dress
against my arm — a sweet caress.
Poetic gifts of love and grace,
soothe my heart, my soul embrace.

Beautiful. I can write, but not poetry. Yet I appreciate the power of carefully crafted words.
I noticed with that the pictures you chose in this poem and in “Wings” you apparently intended to allude to “angelic” qualities. The picture you chose for “Wings” probably comes a bit closer to the Biblical character of angels.
It is odd how we forget that the Bible describes angels as powerful masculine creatures. Wherever the reason, our use of the word has changed.
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=angel&allowed_in_frame=0
Apparently, that change began around 1590. That change was regrettable, I think. Fortunately, you do not actually refer to angels in this poem. I think that for the best.
“Wings” I think is definitely suggestive of a guardian angel. Do guardian angels have wings? I have no idea, but my mother said I had such angel, that everyone has one. It is a cinch that from time to time I have certainly needed mine.

I’ve always considered angels to be whatever entity is chosen to serve God’s purpose at a particular time. Two of the most powerful in my life, as it turned out, were girls I knew many years ago, well on their way into womanhood but still with the innocence of childhood firmly in my grasp.
Then there was my Boxer. Her name was Sundance. For for the days during which I was recovering from having donated bone marrow to a totally unidentified stranger (rumor had it that it was someone in the Middle East, my one request being they were told it was an American who saved her life, who was her angel), Sundance wouldn’t leave my side at all. Day, night, there she was. And even when I was napping I could feel her gaze watching over me, making sure I was alright.
Or at least getting closer.
Keeping me company when nobody else was home with me.
And when I was fully recovered to her satisfaction, she knew her job was done and her time had come.
She lost her long battle with cancer and we had to have her put down.
Only an angel, a true angel, would have hung in there for a joker like me.

I don’t know what forms angels may take, but we have been told we may not be able to recognize an angel when one is present.

An angel can change your life, or may even just change a moment. There were there, and somehow, some way they were able to do something for you that nobody else could.
Could have been their purpose, their calling.
God put them there for a reason.
Who knows where they’ll go next, who they will visit, or if they’ll ever be called upon again.
Sometimes it’s only in hindsight that you recognize them, and it seems you’ll never see them coming.
Matthew 25:35 teaches us that rewards in the kingdom of Heaven are given to those who serve without thought of reward.
What goes around, comes around.
I remember when I was called upon to be a marrow donor. People asked me how / why I would consider going through that.
Simple:there were, at the time, 17 million people in the world wide date base for donations.
I was the one who matched. THE one who matched.
How could I tell Him no.
I found out virtually nothing about the recipient, but it was very specifically suggested that it was a lady in the Middle East.
I told the folks at the Donor Registry to make damned good and sure the lady knew the donor was an American.
Her angel was a blue-eyed devil.
Mysterious ways, huh?
