, , , , , , , , , ,

after a night
of rain and tumult
shining sunlight spears
rise above the treetops
in a triumphant attack
forcing the heavy clouds
to retreat in disarray —
a new day emerges

i turn the page
to pen today’s events —
my mind still on yesterday:
mountain vistas, cotton fields,
deer running beside the highway,
a gentle voice from heaven,
a timid smile,
a giggle

is but a fledgling
(hardly begun)
the parchment unmarked
words are unwritten
I wait in wonder, imagining —
the endless possibilities
for verse and chapter —
the story
of us
