We come
from different directions
along barefoot pathways,
asphalt highways
(that burn the soles of our feet)
gravel roads
(leaves, grey with dust,
the only color,
stop signs and billboards).
Clouds from cars
visible for miles
as they approach,
as they leave us behind.
We seek direction
on the path
where we become
what we were meant to be.
Different stars
shine upon us.
Unlearning is difficult;
simplicity, our goal.
Hearts opened
we will know
the actions to take.
The rewards will be ours.
We will find our home.
.
We are all looking for home. Thank you!

Thank you. Sometimes finding home is finding our true selves, the selves that do not depend on others for happiness. We are both on the same journey. Dennis

It is so true that once we unlearn who we think we are, we begin to find our way home. Yes, having a purpose to make a positive difference in others’ lives takes our eyes off our feet and we begin to see what is around us. We arrive at our true home. Thank you for your beautiful word pictures.

You are certainly an instrument of change and hope, Dennis.

This is what I try to teach my youths who reach out…to unlearn the stuff “adults” have imprinted…takes a good bleaching sometimes. That idea would make a lovely painting…I wish I had such talent.

Thanks for your kind words. I enjoy your blog, your thoughts and the fact that you counsel youth. I’m sure you make a big difference in their lives; a voice to talk to when they can’t talk to anyone else. It must be heartbreaking to hear them talking about suicide.
Blessings,

Thank you. It’s the things, words that hurt here and there that adults throw at youths that break my heart more…all that lead to their despair. You have many talents and with art (words or visual) you can create beauty.

ah… I once decided that I didn’t know anymore who I was. It was an awakening moment. The way home it seems is found in knowing that that we must define our needs and set goals. I decide that doing so in serene acceptance, its possible to accept what life serves up. Otherwise, believing its got a grudge against me, I’d be doomed to suffer.

I agree completely. I learned who I was when I started helping the homeless. My ego dropped away and I have committed to helping others whenever I can. I now have a purpose in life and, in small ways, I am an instrument of change.

We will indeed. Each may walk upon a different road. But each of us are all heading homeward.
