silence
and empty rooms
where once the sound
of lovers’ hearts
would pound
one last look
at painted floor
(boards would creak)
in the cupboard
(where once i hid.
my toes stuck out)
wistful thoughts
of rumpled bed
(midnight fantasies)
in frenzied haste
our clothes
we shed
no sound,
but of closing
the door to paradise.
sweet memories
and pieces of my heart
packed in boxes —
red ribbon ties
our paths will cross,
it’s understood —
no regrets —
we had our time
as seasons passed.
experienced the blooming
then the winter frost.
in between, lived happiness
nevermore
to be lost

how can one regret
a love that they cannot forget
every moment will compare
to what was so lovingly shared
saying that….your words speaks volumes within this page
the only sadness of such a silence is if one didn’t choose
but had it chosen for them and they had no say…..
Beautiful Dennis….as always your words whisper on the winds
capturing the memories of once upon a time …..
Take care….You Matter….

This is just a really nostalgic poem–not exactly happy, not exactly sad. And I guess that’s what I like most about it; my feelings are on the fence and I don’t know which side to cross over. Thank you for a beautiful poem. 🙂

This poem has a simplicity of the style that increases its charm- I love the way the short lines leave much to be imagined, it is both warm and fond with just the right touch of loss. It reiterates the fleeting moment of living and the eternal impression of memories in the same thread. Thanks.
Storm.

The biggest thing is that there are no regrets and that one needs to love unselfishly. With all the heart break, we need to learn to detach and to let go of the pain and just remember the good times and the good memories. Love can be bittersweet, but if we never love, never feel, we will never be able to say that we had these amazing feelings course through our bodies and pulsate through our hearts.

I agree completely, living must be done in the present, but we can selectively appreciate the good times in the past. By loving fully, unselfishly, in the present, we avoid the trap of being tied to past misfortunes and trauma. ~ Dennis

Beautifully written Dennis. Thankfully we can reach a point of remembering for the love that was shared and the understanding of what that gave. We come out stronger after each love, bitter sweet though it may be, to build that beauty within. Thank you for sharing, brings back many memories. Namaste

Thanks Mark, I agree, the love we give, and the love we receive, never diminishes. It is spread throughout the universe. “Pure love is matchless in majesty, it has no parallel in power and there is no darkness it cannot dispel. It is the undying flame that has set all life aglow.” (Meher Baba) Namaste
